Scanner Guidelines
Please consider the following in your search for a good scanner. Look for a scanner that:
- Has an automatic sheet feeder
- Scans at 200 DPI resolution minimum
- Scans in black & white, grayscale, and color
- Scans at least 25 pages per minute
- Scans in duplex (double-sided)
- Has a high-quality TWAIN driver
- Connects via USB cable*
*Wireless scanning has become a popular option. In our experience, however, the wireless connections are not always reliable. Stick with USB connections for reliable, fast scanning.
What about Multifunction Machines?
Users seem to experience a natural draw towards affordable multifunction machines: print + fax + scanning + copier. The appeal is certainly there. But how do they perform?
Multifunction machines produce more technical support frustrations than any other scanner. These are the ultimate example of "Jack of all trades, master of none."
There are no multifunction machines that we recommend.
